Programme activities in Africa contain projects highlighting the added value which accrues from according priority to Africa. In the course of a two- to six-year period, these projects serve to launch activities in which Member States have expressed the greatest interest. - Women, science and technology (1996-2001);
- Arid and semi-arid land management (1996-1999);
- Women, water supplies and the use of water resources in sub-Saharan Africa
(1996-1999);
- Peoples education programmes in West African museums (1998-2001);
-Itinerant African college on culture and development (1998-1999);
-Training craftswomen in southern Africa (1998-1999);
- Enhancing training in communication in Africa (1996-1999);
-Women talk to women (development of community radio) (1996-1999);
-Video libraries for youth in Africa (1996-1998);
-Educational software for the teaching of informatics in Africa (1996-2001);
- Women and the culture of peace in Africa (1998-1999);
- Strengthening national statistical information systems on education (SISED) in sub-Saharan Africa.
