To give additional impetus to UNESCO’s action in Africa, the Priority Africa Department has at its disposal the Priority Africa Special Account. This will be used to finance as a priority five pilot projects in the context of activities concerning the culture of maintenance, the Decade for Education in Africa, strengthening the role of science and technology in the development of Africa, training in informatics for young people and women and the functional and vocational training of young people. The fund will also be used to help implement regional and subregional programmes and projects on the same lines as the priorities expressed by Africans in the Audience Africa report and those of its International Follow-up Committee; it will also be used to conduct UNESCO’s activities in the framework of UNSIA.
