PARTNERSHIP WITH PRIVATE SECTOR

The business community in Africa has an increasing interest in UNESO programmes and activities. Such parnerships have proved to be beneficial in the achievement of UNESCO's goal as the business community plays a significant role in global development.

Some of UNESCO partnerships in the region include:

  • UNESCO regional Office in Abuja with Accenture and Celtron Ltd. in Nigeria contributing expertise in Lagos

  • UNESCO Regional Office in Nairobi with Africa Travel Review publishing articles on protection of geologically significant monuments for public awareness

  • Kenya National Commission for UNESCO with 72 business corporations for the publication of UNESCO Kenya Magazine 1999-2001


Global partners are now focusing activities in Africa, such as:

  • l'Oréal with its For Women in science programme comprising of UNESCO-L'Oréal Fellowships and the l'Oréal Prize

  • The E Fund (members are nine of the world's leading electric utilities from G7 countries) with the electrification of W Park, which is a joint park located in the frontiers of Benin, Burkina faso and Niger. The park is a biosphere reserve as well as a World Heritage site.

UNESCO co-operates worldwide with over 300 business corporations and organizations, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations, foundations and their representatives that are committed to the goals of sustainable human development and social responsability.
