The Sixth International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VI) with the theme Living and learning for a viable future: the power of adult learning, was held at the Hangar Convention Center, Belém do Pará, Brazil, from 1 to 4 December, 2009. It was organised on behalf of UNESCO by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) in partnership with the Ministry of Education in Brazil. A total of 1,125 participants from 144 countries attended, including 55 Ministers and Deputy Ministers and 16 Ambassadors and Permanent UNESCO Delegates. There were also representatives of UN agencies, IGOs, NGOs and the civil society.

A Sexta Conferência Internacional sobre Educação de Adultos (CONFINTEA VI) com o tema “viver e aprender para um futuro viável: o poder da aprendizagem ao longo da vida” aconteceu no Centro de Convenções Hangar, em Belém do Pará, de 1º a 4 de dezembro de 2009. O evento foi organizado pelo Instituto UNESCO de Aprendizagem ao Longo da Vida (UIL) em parceria com o Ministério da Educação no Brasil. Compareceu à conferência um total de 1.124 participantes de 144 países, incluindo 55 ministros e vice-ministros, 16 embaixadores e delegados permanentes da UNESCO. Houve também a presença de representantes de agências da ONU, de organizações intergovernamentais, de organizações não governamentais e fundações, bem com de associações de aprendentes.
