Summary/Historical Context

The idea of using children to spread simple health messages was tried out in over 70 countries during the 1980s. But was it implemented on a large enough scale to make a real difference to the lives of millions of families needing basic knowledge? In an effort to answer this question, a cluster of Aga Khan Foundation-supported child-to-child experimental projects in India where studied by three Indian research institutes. "What's next?" illustrates the different ways in which children in three regions of India were taught to communicate health messages to their families, peers and communities. It also raises some important questions about the future of these approaches in health education in India.
