On 1 February 2011, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova visited Auschwitz-Birkenau, a UNESCO world heritage site. The aim of this highly symbolic visit was to convey a unanimous, intercultural and interfaith message to combat Holocaust denial and all forms of racism.
