The free flow of information is the fundamental premise of Knowledge Societies where individual freedom is respected and honoured. As embodied in Article 19, in Knowledge Societies, freedom of the press is sacrosanct and must be upheld and promoted without exception, including traditional as well as new media. As key agents in realising Knowledge Societies, media professionals must be afforded an environment that allows them to exercise their profession without fear of reprisal.
