Hamburg, 17 July {No.97-118} - The President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton, has sent a message to the Fifth International Conference on Adult Education, organized by UNESCO in Hamburg, Germany.

Here is the text of the message:

"Warm greetings to everyone participating in the Fifth International Conference on Adult Education. I commend you for focusing on the vital role of adult education as the world’s cities seek to make the historic transition from the industrial age to the information age.

"Perhaps our most important pursuit as members of a global community is ensuring that all of our citizens receive the education they need to make the most of their lives. We need the energy, creativity, and determination of all our people. Only when we know that everyone is able to achieve his or her full potential can we truly say we are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.

"Adult education provides crucial help for people seeking to lead productive and fulfilling lives, and I applaud each of you for your dedication to breaking down the barriers and building new bridges to encourage lifelong learning. You can take great pride in the work you are doing each day to help people live out their dreams. Best wishes for a productive conference."

En tant que membres d’une communauté globale, notre objectif le plus important est peut-être de garantir à tous nos citoyens l’éducation dont ils ont besoin pour se réaliser pleinement. Nous avons besoin de l’énergie, de la créativité et de la détermination de tous. C’est seulement quand nous saurons que chacun est en mesure de réaliser tout son potentiel que nous pourrons vraiment dire que nous sommes prêts pour les défis du XXIe siècle.
