JANUARY
COMMUNICATION
(January
22 to 27, Kothmale (Sri Lanka)) Integrating
Modern and Traditional Information and
Communication Technologies for Community
Development
This meeting, organised by UNESCO, Sri
Lanka’s Ministry of Information and the Media,
and the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, will
be an opportunity to pool project experiences
concerning a promising area for the struggle
against poverty: the harnessing of new
information and communication technologies
together with community media – especially
radio – for community development and
empowerment. The meeting will be organised in
two parts. A four-day workshop will bring
together some 20 community radio and television
managers and project co-ordinators from Asia,
Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean to
discuss their experiences and present case
studies. A two-day roundtable of international
partners, including development agencies and
NGOs, will focus on best practices, partnership
strategies and programme development.
