Symposium on "Ethics, Intellectual Property
and Genomics”
The approaching completion of the sequencing
of the human genome confirms the important
economic stakes of genetic research and its
application. The symposium - organised by
UNESCO’s Division of Human Sciences,
Philosophy and the Ethics of Science and
Technology – continues the work undertaken by
UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee
(IBC). It will take stock of legal and
regulatory texts in force or under preparation.
Themes to be discussed will include: Ethics and
the Protection of Intellectual Property;
Specific Aspects of Gene Patenting; Legal
Framework to Ensure the Protection of
Intellectual Property in Genomics Research.
