UNESCO
Paris, December 21(No.2000-141)
- The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia yesterday became a Member State of UNESCO
after the Federal Republic’s Special Envoy Segej Trifunovic deposited an
instrument of acceptance in London and signed the Constitution of UNESCO.
Director-General Koïchiro
Matsuura welcomed the adhesion of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia saying he
hoped co-operation with the Member State would develop. Referring to his message
to President Vojislav Kostunica after his election in early October, Mr Matsuura
expressed “confidence in the democratic change underway” and added: “There
is much to do and UNESCO will do all it can to bring its contribution.”
