YEARS AFTER: WHAT FUTURE FOR AIDS FIGHT?
FOCUS OF THE 21ST CENTURY TALKS IN BARCELONA
Paris,
July 1 - The 22nd session of the 21st Century Talks will be
held on July 7 in Barcelona at the World Trade Centre Auditorium*
on the subject of "20 Years Later: What Future for AIDS
Fight? "
The
meeting, organized by UNESCO's Division of Foresight, Philosophy
and Human Sciences and the UNESCO Centre in Catalunya, will
bring together three speakers:
-
Professor Luc Montagnier, the French scientist who co-discovered
the AIDS virus, who is president of the World Foundation for
AIDS Research and Prevention.
-Awa Marie Coll-Seck, Senegal's Minister of Preventive Action
and Health and a former director of policy, strategy and research
with the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
- Peter Piot, Executive Director of the Joint UN Programme on
HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
The
session, which will take place a few hours before the official
start of the July 7-12 World Conference Against AIDS, also in
Barcelona, will be opened by Antonio Campos Muños, the
director of the Spanish health and consumer ministry's Carlos
III Institute of Health. Also attending will be Jérôme
Bindé, head of UNESCO's Division of Foresight, Philosophy
and Human Sciences.
