Basic and non-formal education

Basic education and literacy programmes, especially for children, women and disadvantaged groups, are a priority for CCIVS and its member organisations. Volunteers work with the local community in short term and on-going projects all around the world.

International volunteer exchanges promote international dialogue and the resolution of conflicts. In Africa, the Middle East and Europe, seminars, workshops and projects both short and medium term, have involved participants from both sides of a conflict to meet with others to share their experiences and views as a step towards peace.

The escalation of conflicts has increased the number of refugees in many parts of the world. In refugee camps volunteers provide daily support, making easier the lives of those forced to flee their homes - especially those of the children.

Select the country in which you would like to have a concrete example.

Apart from teaching, volunteers can discuss the needs of those requiring help. They establish libraries, newspapers, produce teaching materials and collect and send materials to other countries.

Other Examples :

A Centre in Montreal, Canada, was arranged in order to support young people in their fight against drugs and alcohol addiction (CJQ - Canada).

Ten documentation Centres and pedagogical tools through out Senegal were created in order to fight against illiteracy (CUMLK - Senegal).

Volunteers prepared a play for children with a theatre touring the villages (INEX-SDA - Czech Republic)
