UNESCO cooperates with intergovernmental organizations, in particular the United Nations and its organizations and other intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).
To that end, UNESCO joined the United Nations Development Group (UNDG) and participates in intergovernmental and inter-secretariat meetings on policy, strategy and programme coordination (General Assembly, ECOSOC, ACC and its High-level Committees and subsidiary machinery, intergovernmental bodies of other specialized organizations), also participates in system-wide initiatives and contributes to reports for the General Assembly and other bodies of the United Nations system.
UNESCO's strategic objectives and programme priorities are, in addition to its regular budget, supported by extrabudgetary contributions. Particular importance is given to UNESCO's cooperation with the United Nations system, the European Communities and the multilateral development banks, both as funding sources and as general cooperation partners.
