    In view of the strong interest of Member States in the application of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in development of education and learning, the UNESCO Secretariat (Communication and Information Sector with cooperation of the Education Sector) is organizing a series of presentations, debates and demonstrations on this subject in conjunction with the sessions of Commission V on UNESCO's Communication and Information programmes:

    The following Items are on the Agenda of Commission V:

    3.1 Consideration and adoption of the Draft Medium-Term Strategy for 2002-2007 and preparation of the Draft Programme and Budget for 2004-2005
    4.3 Consideration and adoption of the Draft Programme and Budget for 2002-2003 Part II.A: Major Programme V - Communication and information
    8.5 Draft Recommendation on the promotion and use of multilingualism and universal access to cyberspace and report by the Director-General

    In addition, Commission V will consider the part relevant to its mandate of the cross-cutting themes "Eradication of poverty, especially extreme poverty" and "The contribution of the new information and communication technologies to the development of education, science and culture and the construction of a knowledge society".
