Three major elections are taking place during the General Conference.

    To follow progress on the electoral procedure during the 31st session of the General Conference, you may consult the summary of debates of the Nominations Committee meetings.

  • Election of the General Committee of the General Conference. The composition was adopted during the 2nd meeting of the Plenary, on 15 October. View the composition of the General Committee.
  • Election of the Member States to the Executive Board. The number of seats for each electoral group is as follows: Group I: 9 seats, Group II: 7 seats, Group III: 10 seats, Group IV: 12 seats, Group V: 20 seats.
    At this election, the number of vacant seats to be filled were: Group I: 4 seats, Group II: 3 seats, Group III: 6 seats, Group IV: 6 seats, Group V (a): 7 seats, Group V (b): 3 seats.
    The election was held on Friday, 26 October. The results were announced during a special session of the Plenary on the same day. View the results of the election of Members of the Executive Board.
  • The elections to commissions, committees and other subsidiary organs established by the General Conference took place yesterday. The results of the elections were announced at the eighth meeting of the Nominations Committee held the same day at 6 p.m. Results - PDF
Memberships to the following 14 organs will be partially or totally renewed:

  1. Legal Committee;
  2. Headquarters Committee;
  3. Conciliation and Good Offices Commission responsible for seeking the settlement of any disputes that may arise between State Parties to the Convention against Discrimination in Education;
  4. Council of the UNESCO International Bureau of Education (IBE);
  5. Intergovernmental Council for the Information for All Programme;
  6. International Coordinating Council of the Programme on Man and the Biosphere (MAB);
  7. Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Programme;
  8. Intergovernmental Committee for Promoting Return of Cultural Property to its Countries of Origin or its Restitution in Case of Illicit Appropriation;
  9. Executive Committee for the International Campaign for the Establishment of the Nubia Museum in Aswan and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo;
  10. Intergovernmental Council of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC);
  11. Intergovernmental Council of the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme;
  12. Intergovernmental Committee established by the statutes of the International Bioethics Committee;
  13. Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS);
  14. Governing Board of the UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS)
