The 31st session will begin at UNESCO Headquarters, 7 place de Fontenoy, Paris on Monday 15 October. Its wortk should be completed on Saturday 3 November 2001. Thursday 1st November is a holiday in the host country, but will be a working day for the General Conference. No meetings are planned for Saturdays afternoon, however the General Conference may decide otherwise during the session if it is deemed necessary.

Times of meetings:

  • General Committee: 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.
  • Other meetings: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.

 

The Executive Board confirmed these dates at its 161st session, in May/June 2001.

Top of page Provisional agenda (31 C/1 Prov.)

The document 31 C/1 Prov. will be available during the summer of 2001.

1. The provisional agenda for ordinary sessions of the General Conference shall be prepared by the Executive Board on the basis of items submitted not later than one hundred days before the opening of the session. This agenda shall be communicated to the Member States and Associate Members not less than ninety days before the opening of the session.
2. The provisional agenda of a session shall include:
(a) the report of the Director-General on the work of the Organization since the last ordinary session of the General Conference, presented by the Chairperson of the Executive Board;
(b) items whose inclusion has been ordered by the General Conference;
(c) items proposed by the United Nations;
(d) items proposed by any Member State or Associate Member of the Organization;
(e) items pertaining to the budget and accounts;
(f) items which the Director-General deems it necessary to raise;
(g) any other items inserted by the Executive Board.
3. Once the provisional agenda has been circulated, the Member States and Associate Members, the Executive Board and the Director-General may, at least six weeks before the date set for the opening of the session, request the inclusion of supplementary items in the agenda.
4. The Executive Board shall prepare, on the basis of the provisional agenda and the supplementary list, a revised provisional agenda (document 31 C/1 Prov. Rev.), which shall be submitted by the Chairperson of the Executive Board to the General Conference for approval.
5. After the deadline for the inclusion of supplementary items, no new items can be included in the agenda, unless they are of an important and urgent character and have been referred to the General Committee, and whose inclusion in the agenda has been approved by the General Conference by a two-thirds majority of the Members present and voting.

 

The provisional timetable of work will be available in 2001.
