Origin	In 1980, at its 21^st session, the General Conference approved the creation of the Executive Committee of the International Campaign for the establishment of the Nubia Museum in Aswan and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo (21 C/Res.4/11).
Mission of the Committee	To advise the Director-General on all questions which may arise in the course of the operations for the establishment of the museums in Aswan and Cairo, particularly on the preservation of the international character of the enterprise and the co-ordination of work, on the appropriation of sums from the Trust Fund to be established for this purpose, on promotional activities.
Composition	The Council consists of 15 Member States appointed for a term of office of 2 years, renewable until the completion of the project. Member States elected at the 31^st session until the end of the 32nd session: Belgium, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Greece, India, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Lithuania, Mauritius, Portugal, Senegal, Slovenia, Sudan, Switzerland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Meetings foreseen during the biennium	12^th session of the Executive Committee: 14-17 January 2002 13^th session of the Executive Committee: 4-5 November 2002. Meeting of the Bureau: Summer term in 2003.
