A new Web site aimed at supporting entrepreneurship among Antiguan and Barbudan youth was launched over the weekend.

The Youth Pan De Move Web site,
www.pandemove.com, contains a wealth of information for anyone, young or old, interested in starting a business and contains country specific tools and information for Antigua & Barbuda.

Youth Pan De Move was the brainchild of Antiguan youth ambassadors Jamion Knight and Shinelle Brown, who came up with the project idea in January while attending a UNESCO conference.

UNESCO has sponsored the start-up of the project, to the tune of US$2,500 and ABI Bank Ltd., has joined with UNESCO in sponsorship of the project.

Knight, who is co-ordinating the project, explained the Web site seeks to be a one-stop resource, bringing to one location a compilation of information for small business and providing online links to even more resources.

Knight said an important feature of the site is, in many cases, it breaks down or gives an overview of complex and potentially intimidating information.

The project also seeks to stimulate creativity as it encourages youth to take advantage of local opportunities.

As an example of this, Knight said that there will be many small business opportunities associated with Cricket World Cup 2007 and Antigua & Barbuda’s young people can benefit from the event.

The Web site is the first of a two-part project aimed at encouraging and facilitating entrepreneurial activity among the youth.

The second aspect of the project is a workshop targeting students in vocational programmes. The workshop is scheduled for January.

There are also plans for the project to work with next year’s ABIB Career Affair, which has become an annual event.

The project co-ordinator expressed the hope that the Web site will be utilised, particularly by the students of business oriented institutions and encouraged corporate sponsors to contribute to the continuance of the programme.
