Dream Cast drama group
on tour to make a difference
20 February 2006
Kennedy
Folasi is leading a talented group of youths to
dramatize the issues affecting young people in
the communities around Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Their goal is to promote active participation
of youths in their communities and to bring awareness
to social issues affecting young people such as
substance abuse, sexually transmitted diseases,
HIV/AIDS and lack of self-esteem.
The partners
in this project include Save the Children Australia
(SCA) and their Youth Outreach Program (YOP) with
support from the Ministry of Health.
Dream Cast was initially
formed in July 2005 after Kennedy Folasi coordinated
a theatre drama training project. It targeted
unemployed and out of school youths and the programme
was deemed a success for the participants.
Since then, the
group has organised sport activities, Karaoke
nights, mountain hikes and clean ups around the
community.
The next mission of Dream
Cast is to use drama performances and radio drama
as an advocacy tool in the community around Honiara.
