Construction for fish farm begins
21 December 2006

Papua New Guinea: The fish farm project is under way. So far many construction changes have taken place within the one-week period of project implementation.

By the end of this week (22/12/06), most of the construction work should be completed. The pond will be completed and the water should be let in at the end of this week. Once the water fills up the pond and flows out, we should be negotiating for purchasing the fish fingerlings and fish feed (stock). This part and purchasing of materials for transferring fish among the pond is yet to be done. The feeding and monitoring of the fish pond will begin early 2007 until the fish are ready for sale sometime in May or June 2007.

Some of the activities may not follow the actual plan, but we have been flexible enough to adapt to changes and challenges faced during the actual implementation stages. However, so far things are turning out to be more interesting for the youths and the community as they are having pride in the project funded by an international organization, which is taking place in their rural community.

A few community leaders are happy about the project and are begging for youths to take ownership of the project and do whatever is necessary to stay away from trouble and focus in managing the project to earn income for them.

There is great excitement in the project and every stakeholder is having pride regarding the project. I will continue to update you (sponsor) in any major activities completed with photos.
