Of considerable concern was the destruction of the sand dunes behind the beach.  Here at Rendezvous Bay in Anguilla, dunes 6 metres (20 ft) high were eroded back more than 9 metres (30 ft) in places, leaving vertical exposed faces and dangling tree roots.  High dunes such as these take decades to form.
