The hurricane-force waves tore up nearshore seagrass beds and deposited mounds of dead seagrass on the beaches of the Leeward Islands. At Rendezvous Bay in Anguilla, the dead seagrass carpeted the beaches to depths of 1 metre (3 ft) or more.
