The Argentine Republic

Five Argentinean specialists attended the international conference ECOPLATA’96 (Montevideo, Uruguay, November 1996). Four specialists from Argentina participated in preparing the results of the ECOPLATA’96 conference for publication, another is co-author of a book entitled ‘Rio de la Plata - an Environmental Overview’. Four young specialists participated in a training course on algae biodiversity (Concepción, Chile, March-April 1996); another young specialist attended courses in coastal sciences given at the UNESCO Chair, University of Concepción (Chile, autumn 1996- spring 1997). Interest has been expressed in joining a project on ‘Information and Consultation System on the Biodiversity of Rio de La Plata and Adjacent Waters’ (BIOPLATA) which is co-sponsored by Uruguay. Someone from UNESCO-Paris visited Argentina in May 1998 to discuss participation. 

A paper relevant to the Argentine ‘The Battle for the Last Fish in the South Atlantic’ was posted on the web-based discussion forum ‘Wise Coastal Practices for Sustainable Human Development’ in September 2000.
