Republic of Chile

The ‘UNESCO Chair in Coastal Sciences’ continued at the University of Concepción, Chile, 1996-1998, attended by several Chilean students. Chile organized an ‘International Training Course on Algal Biodiversity’; it was attended by several national trainees (March - April, 1996). A specialist from Chile participated in the workshop on the ‘Application of Interactive Multimedia in Taxonomy and Biodiversity Studies’ (Concepción, Chile, January 1996). Another specialist took part in the ‘4th International Congress of Malacology’ (Santiago de Chile, Chile, October 1996). A specialist from Chile attended the international conference ‘Towards Sustainable Development of the Rio de la Plata Coastal Zone’ (ECOPLATA’96, Montevideo, Uruguay, November 1996).

In June 1999 a paper ‘A Co-management Approach to Artisanal Fisheries / Chile and Uruguay’ was posted on the web-based ‘Wise Coastal Practices for Sustainable Human Development Forum’.
