A Chinese version of the CSI brochure ‘Land, Sea and People seeking a sustainable balance’ was published in China and distributed to Chinese institutions.
In July 1999 a paper on ‘Interagency Partnerships in Pollution Monitoring / Xiamen-China’ was posted on the web-based ‘Wise Coastal Practices for Sustainable Human Development Forum’. Papers on the Spratlys were added in March and June 2002: ‘The Spratlys as a Zone of Peace: the Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Concept at work’ and ‘The Spratly Islands: an Opportunity for Environmental Diplomacy?’
One person from China attended the Man and the Biosphere-CSI ECOTONE IX interdisciplinary workshop ‘Wise Practices in Coastal Tourism Development in Protected Areas’ in the Philippines in May 2000.
A paper on the UNESCO initiative to integrate indigenous knowledge into development and conservation efforts: ‘Local and Indigenous Knowledge Systems in a Global Society’ was presented at a conference on the ‘Importance of Sacred Natural Sites for Biodiversity Conservation’ that was held in Kunming and Xishuangbanna Biosphere Reserve, China, in February 2002.
