The Kingdom of Denmark
Two people from Denmark participated in the meeting on ‘Urban Development in the Coastal Environment’ held in Essaouira, Morocco in November 1997. A report of the meeting was published as CSI Info 5 ‘Urban development and freshwater resources: small coastal cities; Développement urbain et ressources en eau : petites villes côtières’.
An intersectoral field project was initiated in the Faeroe Islands as part of the MOST ‘Circumpolar Coping Processes Project’. One person from Denmark participated in the intersectoral workshop ‘Towards Wise Coastal Development Practices’ held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris at the end of 1998. A report on the workshop was published in English and French as CSI info 10 (2000): ‘Wise Coastal Practices for Sustainable Human Development. Results of an Intersectoral Workshop and Preliminary Findings of a Follow-up Virtual Forum’. The delegate from Denmark presented a paper on the ‘Circumpolar project’.
Coastal and small island matters in northern seas were dealt with by the Nordic-Baltic meeting of the Social Sciences sections of the National Commissions for UNESCO in Helsinki, Finland, in March 1999.
A specialist from Denmark participated in the UNESCO conference on ‘Sustainable Development of Coastal Resources in the Nordic and Baltic Countries’. The conference, held in Fredrikstad, Norway, in May 1999, was organized by the Norwegian National Commission for UNESCO.
In June 1999 a paper on ‘Local Coping Strategies / Faroe Islands - Denmark’ was posted on the web-based ‘Wise Coastal Practices for Sustainable Human Development’ Forum.
The principle author of a training manual, for non-government organisations,
produced by the Secretariat
for Eastern African Coastal Area Management (SECAM) is from Denmark. A
French translation, ‘D’une Bonne Idée a un Projet Réussi. Manuel pour le Développement
et la Gestion de Projets a l’Echelle Local’ was published as CSI info
9 in 2000.
