The Republic of Lithuania
Three trainees from Lithuania participated in the advanced training in coastal studies provided through the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission, HELCOM-sponsored Baltic Floating University facility (BFU) (Eastern Baltic, July, 1996). One person from Lithuania attended a BFU planning workshop (St. Petersburg, Russian Federation, May 1997) and a regional workshop on ‘Teaching Integrated Coastal Management’ (St. Petersburg, Russian Federation, May 1997).
Two specialists from Lithuania participated in the UNESCO conference on ‘Sustainable Development of Coastal Resources in the Nordic and Baltic Countries’. The conference, held in Fredrikstad, Norway, in May 1999, was organized by the Norwegian National Commission for UNESCO.
