The Kingdom of Sweden

A workshop (co-sponsored by UNESCO’s departments of hydrology and human habitat) on ‘Methods for Prevention, Prognoses and Mitigation of Salt Water Intrusion in the Coastal Zone’ was held in Malmö in June 1996 as the starting point for a regional (Mediterranean) project on ‘Urban Development and Freshwater Resources in Small Historical Coastal Cities’.

Two specialists from Sweden participated in the UNESCO conference on ‘Sustainable Development of Coastal Resources in the Nordic and Baltic Countries’. The conference, held in Fredrikstad, Norway, in May 1999, was organized by the Norwegian National Commission for UNESCO.
