Situated in
the Caribbean, at 130 15' North and 610 12' West, St. Vincent
and the Grenadines lies to the north of Grenada, its closest neighbour.
The archipelago has a land area of 389 km2 and includes 33 islands,
the largest of which is St Vincent (344 km2), followed by Bequia,
Union Island, Canouan, Mayreau and Mustique (see map below). The
capital is Kingstown. The population is 116,394 (July 2002 estimate),
and the people are descendants of Africans, Asians and Europeans.
The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar.
