Beach Monitoring Activities

Beach monitoring is an important activity in the archipelago, especially as beaches are coming under increasing threat from erosion, pollution and human use.

All the beaches in San Andres, Old Providence and Santa Catalina are regularly monitored by CORALINA to determine changes and plan action where necessary. Every effort is made to ensure that the community are involved in these activities.

Sharing analysis results with other agencies

The results are applied when new developments beside the beach are planned, such as the new pedestrian walkway at Sprat Bight in San Andres. Students are also involved in the monitoring at Sprat Bight.
