CARIBBEAN - San Andres Archipelago (Colombia) Activities

Involving the Public in the Small Islands Voice Global Internet Forum

Residents of the San Andres Archipelago have participated and contributed to this forum frequently. One of the most notable contributions was by Mr. Dulph Mitchell who wrote 'I would like to hear from other islands, how they manage excessive garbage. We are now swimming in excessive garbage, with the threat of health epidemics that will be harmful to our children, youth and old people, and without any appropriate management in sight. For this reason my question: is the disposal of garbage a problem in other islands?' This request brought in an 'avalanche' of replies in 2004, and a full compilation of all the replies is available on the website.

Other notable contributions have included one on community planning in Old Providence and Santa Catalina by June Marie Mow in 2005.

It is planned in 2005 to hold two workshops, one in San Andres and one in Old Providence/Santa Catalina, to demonstrate this internet forum to the community and to facilitate the further involvement of key community members in this exchange.
