Sandwatch
training workshop for students from Trinidad and Tobago
On
17th March 2003, 40 students and 30 adults from the Mayaro Government
Primary School in Trinidad and Tobago took part in a one-day workshop
in Bequia, organized by the Small Islands Voice team and the Bequia
Community High School. Activities included a visit to the Old
Hegg Turtle Sanctuary where there was an interactive discussion
between the visitors and Mr. Orton King, founder of the turtle
project.
After
lunch at Park Beach, the group returned to the Bequia Community
High School for a briefing and demonstration of the Sandwatch
methods and activities. This was followed by a three-hour session
at Port Elizabeth Beach, where the students and adults were trained
in how to measure erosion and accretion, longshore currents, sand
characteristics, and beach debris collection and analysis.
