Associated
Schools Project Network revived in St. Vincent
On
December 5th, 2003, The National Commission of UNESCO of St. Vincent
and the Grenadines, hosted an Associated Schools Project Network
(ASPnet) workshop, at the conference room of the Ministry of Finance
in Kingstown. The meeting was designed to re-awaken the UNESCO
ASP programme here in St. Vincent.
Presentations
were made by Mr Hugh Wyllie, Deputy Chief Education Officer; Mrs
Monica Regisford Gouglin, ASPnet National Coordinator of Trinidad
and Tobago; Mr Herman Belmar, National Coordinator UNESCO Small
Islands Voice/Sandwatch project; Mr Philbert Jorn, Barrouallie
Secondary School; and Ms La Fleur John, Secretary-General of the
National Commission.
Mrs
Douglin and Mr Belmar sited numerous programmes and benefits of
the ASPnet, which generated long discussions, and left the large
numbers of teachers present eager to activate the ASP programme
in their schools. It is anticipated that the resilience of the
Bequia Community High School will be emulated by a number of these
schools in the near future, which will be enhanced by that school's
drive to expand the Sandwatch programme to as many schools as
are willing to participate.
