The
President today met with the students from Seychelles
The President
today met with the five students of the tenth grade of Praslin
Secondary School of Seychelles, who are visiting the Maldives
under the 'Small Islands Voice' programme sponsored by UNESCO.
The children were joined by their accompanying teacher, Ms. Farida
Camille.
The visit
of the Seychellois school children is part of a youth exchange
component of the 'Small Islands Voice' programme, and the visiting
students will experience life in the Maldives, share views on
the environment and work with local students to design a joint
project for the protection of the environment, which will be implemented
under the framework of 'Small Islands Voice'. The Seychellois
students are being hosted by Madhrasathul Ahmadhiyya.
The President
extended a very warm welcome to the five children and their teacher,
during this morning's meeting, which was held at the President's
Office. Further, the President inquired from the students about
their experiences from the visit, and what impressions they had
made of the Maldives and its people.
The Children
told the President that it had been a source of immense joy for
them that he had met with them. They said that there were numerous
similarities between the Maldives and Seychelles. They also briefed
the President on the issues that had been raised at a seminar
that was held between them and students of Madhrasathul Ahmadhiyya.
The Executive
Secretary to the President, Mr. Abdulla Shahid, the Director General,
Economic Policy at the President's Office, Ms. Nahid Ali, the
Principal of Madhrasathul Ahmadhiyya, Mr. Ahmed Saeed, and the
school's Supervisor and coordinator of the exchange programme,
Mr. Hassan Nashid, also attended the meeting.
