Commencement
activities
A visit was
made to the Maldives from 29 November to 4 December 2002, by Ms.
Gillian Cambers, UNESCO Small Islands Voice consultant, to discuss
with governmental and non-governmental organizations the potential
for Small Islands Voice in the Maldives. The visit was coordinated
by the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources.
Meetings were held with the following organizations:

Foundation for the Advancement of Self Help in Attaining Needs
(FASHAN)
Ministry of Atolls Administration
Ministry of Education
Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources
Ministry of Home Affairs, Housing and Environment

Ministry of Women's Affairs and Social Security
Ministry of Youth and Sport
United Nations Development Programme
UNESCO National Commission for the Maldives
Volunteers for Environment Social Harmony and Improvement (VESHI).
This was followed
by a second visit from 13-22 April 2003 during which plans were
finalised for Small Islands Voice activities in the Maldives and
meetings were held with the following additional organizations:
