students from around Rarotonga took part in last week's peace
festival including students from Avarua Primary School. Here a
just a few pieces written by them.
World
Peace
My
essay is based upon world peace. The question I would like to
ask is, "Why is the world in so much turmoil, with wars and genocide
occurring in so many parts of the world today?" With acts of terrorism
bombings going off around many important countries, it makes you
wonder what the world I coming to.
In
this millennium it's not safe to travel anywhere because there
is so much violence in the world. So many peace organisations
in the world are trying so hard to renounce all the violence that
is happening around the world.
I
pay tribute to those who have lost their lives in trying to make
a change in this world. Not only is mankind destroying itself,
it's also destroying its environment, plant life, animal life,
etc.
We
are a threat to ourselves. What does it take to make a change?
Do we have to loose everything that's so precious to us for us
to realize what is at stake? I say NO, we have to make that change.
We have the freedom and God given right to protect against maters
that our world leaders decide. Power, greed and money are all
that they understand and care about.
I
stand for peace in the world where unfed children are starving
due to wars, where families are split up because of wars.
It's
so sad that al this devastation is caused by people who think
that they can play God. Nevertheless, we on our part stand the
stand and question what we believe is our right to make our world
a better place.

Peace
Peace
not war, is what some chant
Don't you think peace is what we want?
Peace is love
Flying above us in the form of a dove.
Peace is reverence
Like the beautiful gardenia of fragrance.
Peace is like a circle that surrounds us
That is why we shouldn't make a big fuss
Peace is like a big ship
That is full of friendship
Peace is caring
Peace is sharing.
Peace is love.

Peace
Peace
is like a smile of a baby when they are happy to see you.
It was the smell of a fragrant gardenia and the sounds of laughter
of children playing by.
It feels like soft wool as your fingers run through.
Peace tastes like chocolate which is melting slowly on your tongue.
How do you see peace? You wonder sometimes.

Peace
Peace
starts in our home, between Mum and Dad. Parents and children,
brothers and sisters and aunties and uncles.
With peace in the home it brings happiness and unity. Without
peace in the home there would be hatred and division.
Peace is loving everybody no matter where they come from.
Peace is also needed in the government, in church groups and in
any other gathering.
Peace is the opposite of war when people kill each other.
Greediness and selfishness creates hunger for power and destroys
the poor.
It is peace that God wants every human being to have because it
will bring man close to God.
When the world was in trouble, God sent his beloved son Jesus
Christ to bring peace and life.
So I believe to have that peace in the home, in the government,
in church or other gatherings we will have life.
Peace is good for you because it is a gift from God.
Peace is quietness and calmness,
Everywhere you go there is peace,
Around you there is peace,
Caring is showing peace,
Everybody has peace in their heart.
