.. Volume VI
Africa in the Nineteenth Century until the 1880s

Editor
Professor J.F.A. Ajayi (Nigeria)

Summary:
Major revolutions took place in Africa during this period: the Mfecane in southern Africa and the Islamic revolutions in West Africa resulted in the emergence of new States. At the same time as these internal changes were taking place, the Europeans were expanding their relations with Africa while the abolition of slavery was bringing about changes in trade and within African societies.
