CENTRAL
AFRICAN REPUBLIC
AKA PYGMY MUSIC
The ancient
Egyptians were the first to recognize the musical gifts
of the Pygmies. Since our rediscovery of their music,
the modernism of their art of counterpoint, polyphony
and polyrhythmic sound never ceased to astonish us.
They remain models of inventiveness for composers all
over the world.

BANDA POLYPHONY
The jazzy
polyphonic art of the Bandas is one of the great musicological
discoveries of our century. An authoritative explanation
of this art has been given by Simha Arom in his works
and on this CD with its eminently pedagogical programme:
the examples are provided in turn by horn, flute, whistle
and voice ensembles.
