PÉCS CANTAT2010 - Singing Cultural Capital of Europe

Résumé

Pécs Cantat is a flagship-project of Pécs, Cultural Capital of Europe in 2010 and the first edition of the future "Singing Cultural Capitals" - turning the spotlight to choral singing, as a workshop of creativity, tolerance, cooperation through the arts, especially through music.

The one week long festival introduces not only the Hungarian choral heritage together with the traditions of Pécs but also the professional and non-professional art, music and dance of the local minorities (Croatian, German, Roma, Serbian).

This year, within the framework of the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures, 7 workshops will be organised, 5 of which represent the best Hungarian repertoire and 2 will focus on the international repertoire. The festival will gather together 1200 singers from all over the World who will be guided by internationally acclaimed conductors from Hungary and abroad. The “Open Singing and Open Dancing” program gives the possibility for the non-professional local audience as well of the active participation.
