Project "Friend's Tales"

Résumé

The project „Friend’s tales” was developed with the aim to raise children’s awareness on cultural diversity in Latvia with particular focus on exploring different and rich cultures of the Baltic (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) and Caucasus (Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan) regions. During the project children and youngsters from Baltic and Caucasus countries living in Latvia have the possibility to come together and share their experiences and perspectives of their own traditions and culture as well as learn about the others. Furthermore, the project promotes creative expressiveness and enriches children’s knowledge about near and far countries reflecting the diverse world around them. Through reading, story-telling and story-writing children develop the ability to listen, analyze and reflect their experience and attitudes. The project web site called “story telling time” (www.stastulaiks.lv) is imaged as a cosy house with many rooms where everyone is welcomed to communicate and express ones thoughts on different topics including food, art, traditions, literature or other important everyday life aspects. Children and youngsters enliven the house with their own stories, travel descriptions, colorful illustrations, photos and videos while another activity - The Reading evenings - gives the real possibility to meet other children and youngsters participating in the project and gain insight of the cultural richness by enjoying traditional dancing, singing and other activities. The project will culminate in a children camp.
