Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration

Résumé

The X Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration is a festival which has taken place every five years in Riga since 1960 and in 2010 celebrates its 50th anniversary. It is part of the Baltic Song and Dance Celebration tradition common to all Baltic States - Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, which was proclaimed Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003 and which has pertained, as from November 2008, to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration will bring together 30 thousands of participants from all regions of Latvia. The Celebration will unite choirs, brass bands, dance and folk groups, as well as pupils interested in fine arts and environment. During the spring 2010 different concerts are taking place all around the country and the culmination will be more than twenty concerts and events that will take place in July 2010 in Riga, the capital of Latvia.

The 50th anniversary of the Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration is included in the list of anniversaries with which UNESCO to be associated in 2010 - 2011.
