Project "Faces of Orient: educational toolkit"

The projects aims at designing teaching materials on Asia and Africa for secondary school teachers. Polish new curricural guidance comprises elements of teaching about Asia and Africa, as well as development and intercultural education, but Orient seems to be presented in classrooms rather superficial, and treated as a homogenous entity, with culture being the sole determinant of its socio-economic shape. The project aims to fill this gap by raising awareness and qualifications of teachers in development and intercultural education. It presents the diversity of Asia and Africa through their develpoment challenges, but at the same time gets beyond the issue of develoment showing the socio-cultural context. The toolkit consists of three parts: a) "an European looks at the Orient" - educational pack on psychological aspects of cultural perception, b) "Towards development: ways of Asia and Africa" - book on develomnet challneges of selected regions, c) "Global Orient" - multimedia CD with teaching units presenting local faces of Asia and Africa
