Celebration of International Languages Week

Forum on International Languages in Aotearoa New Zealand, to be held in Wellington on Wednesday 18 August from 3.30 p.m. until 5.00 p.m.

The theme to be considered is that: "New Zealanders should learn Chinese". The Forum will draw together those for whom Chinese is their first language, and who have arrived in bicultural New Zealand. China is becoming an increasingly important trading partner with New Zealand, and for this reason young people have been encouraged to learn to speak Chines.

The Forum will also include those for whom te reo Maori is their first language, their indigenous language.
