Ceremony of Honorary Doctoral Degree grant to Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela


Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM) in the name of Laureate International Universities will grant Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela an Honorary Doctoral Degree, the highest academic recognition awarded by a university. The ceremony will take place at the main campus of UEM in Villaviciosa de Odón, Madrid on the seventh of May 2010. This recognition is given not only in the name of the UEM but in that of all the rest of the Laureate International Universities that include more than 50 institutions worldwide.

The weeks previous to the event the University will organize activities such as the continuous reading of “Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation” by John Carlin. This activity will take place on the World Book and Copyright Day (23rd of April) at the Villaviciosa campus and at the branch campus in La Moraleja, Madrid. Students will leave their written testimony for Nelson Mandela which will be delivered to this great leader.

All the activities will be celebrated within the framework of the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures.
