Discovering oases, communication strategy

Résumé

The aim of the project is to make people aware of the richness of Palmeral of Elche natural and cultural Heritage, within the framework of the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures and the International Year of Biological Diversity. By a series of ongoing activities (conferences, walkabouts , documentary projections and gastronomy workshops) we aimed to bring about a common oases identity shared with a 150 million people scattered along the belt of arid land that spreads form Asia, North Africa, Spain and America.

El Palmeral de Elche is a cultural landscape, being the only oasis in the World Heritage List, since year 2.000. Oases are a good example of how man can adapt to the environment in the most hostile regions of the planet, the desert. Such ingenious traditional systems of agriculture are based in the good management of water and natural resources.
