nternational conference on Dialogue between Christianity and Islam in Context of Contemporary Culture

Résumé

The aim of the project consists in organization and conducting of an International Conference dedicated to Problems and Prospects of Intercultural Dialogue between Christianity and Islam in present-day world. The focus is on fundamental issues in intercultural dialogue; actual directions in cross-religious studies; and case studies of 'good practices' in interfaith dialogue between Christianity and Islam. Several co-organizing academic institutions, both state and non-governmental, would serve as co-organizers, including Institute of Ethnology, Russian Academy of Sciences; Islamic University in Kazan, Russia, as well as UNESCO Chair of comparative study of religions, mediation and dialogue at St. Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon. The conference would be conducted on October 23-24, 2010 in St.Petersburg, Russia, basing on premises of St.Petersburg Scientific Centre of Russian Academy of Sciences. The venue would consist of approximately 60 persons: academics, societal leaders, students from mains regions of Russia and neighboring countries, Central Asia and Near East. Proceedings of the conference would be published on the website of our UNESCO chair and distributed, using the possibilities of UNESCO/UNITWIN network of chairs dedicated to interfaith dialogue for intercultural understanding
