UNESCO Etxea: Symposium of Natural and Cultural Heritage


On the occasion of the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures an the International Year of Biodiversity , on October 21, took place the symposium on Cultural and Natural Heritage, organized by UNESCO Etxea-UNESCO Center in Basque Country, in the Biodiversity Center of Euskadi, Spain.

The local and international participants that took part at the symposium reflected on the interrelation between the cultural heritage and the natural environment, and the necessity of including those heritage goods into the management, attending also to new items like Cultural Landscapes, and taking into account UNESCO and ICOMOS international proposals, and also local initiatives like the ones of Salinas de Añana or Urdaibai Natural Reserve.

Among the experts that took part at the event, we could find Luis Ramallo, UNESCO´s National Commission’s president; Monica Luengo, ICOMOS-IFLA´s Scientific Committee’s president; German Alonso, Basque Government’s Biodiversity and Environmental Participations manager; Luis Iparragirre, Basque Government’s Cultural Heritage manager and Mikel Mancisidor, UNESCO-Etxea´s Director.
