Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage
The fourth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage took place in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) from 28 September to 2 October 2009. The Sanké mon (Mali), the Tango (Argentina and Uruguay), the Traditional Ainu dance (Japan) and the Aubusson tapestry (France) appear among the 88 elements incribed by the Committee on the Urgent Safeguarding List and on the Representative List of Humanity. The Committee also selected 3 safeguarding programmes, projects and activities that it considers best reflect the principles and objectives of the Convention.
Released on the occasion of this session and entirely downloadable, the kit on intangible cultural heritage is a basic reference and practical instrument for promoting and ensuring an effective understanding of intangible cultural heritage and the 2003 Convention by governments, communities, experts, concerned UN agencies, NGOs and interested individuals.
