Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage

30 September 2008 was the deadline for the submission of nomination files for the inscription in 2009 of elements on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. More than 100 files were submitted by States Parties to the Convention. The nominations will be examined by a subsidiary body of the Committee in mid-2009, and when the Committee meets in its 4th session in the last quarter of 2009, it will decide which elements meet the criteria laid out in the Operational Directives and should be inscribed on this List.
A Committee session (3.COM) took place in Istanbul, Turkey, from 4 to 8 November 2008.

- 2 March 2009: Proposal of a Programme, Project or Activity to be Selected and Promoted as Best Reflecting the Principles and Objectives of the Convention (form ICH-03-2009: English | French)
- 16 March 2009: Nomination for Inscription on the Urgent Safeguarding List (for the first inscriptions in 2009) (form ICH-01-2009: English | French)
- Any time: Requests for international assistance from the Intangible Heritage Fund for requests less than US$ 25 000 and emergency requests (form ICH-04-2008: English | French)
