NGO forums on the occasion of Committee sessions

Paris, France, 2 December 2012

NGOs accredited to act in an advisory capacity to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage are organizing their Forum on 2 December 2012 in Paris, just before the seventh Session of the Committee (3 to 7 December 2012). A symposium on community participation will attempt to analyze how communities have participated in the activities around the 2003 Convention, such as the nomination processes, but also the capacity-building programmes, inventorying and other safeguarding activities at the national level. The afternoon will be dedicated to a business meeting, which will focus on main issues concerning NGOs during the forthcoming 7COM and on the preparation of NGO interventions during the 7th session of the Committee.

The Forum will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Maison des associations du 7ème arrondissement, 4 rue Amélie, 75007 Paris.

Bali, Indonesia, 21 November 2011

The accredited NGOs organized their Forum on 22 November in Bali, prior to the sixth Session of the Intergovernmental Committee (22 to 29 November 2011). The meeting brought together a number of NGOs from around the world to discuss collaboration among NGOs in the field of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage and to promote information-sharing. Main topics included the latest developments regarding their involvement in implementing the Intangible Heritage Convention and their interventions as observers during the 6th session of the Committee.

The Forum was held at the Bali International Convention Centre (BICC) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Nairobi, Kenya, 14 November 2010

Organized during 2010, International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures, the Forum was held just prior to the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Committee in Nairobi (15 to 19 November 2010), on November 14, 2010. It aimed at building capacity and strengthening partnerships among NGOs, particularly those of developing countries, especially in Africa. It also aimed to promote greater involvement of civil society in the implementation of the Convention and in the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage.

The Forum was held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
